Founded in 1962 and a public company since 1983, Raymond James Financial Inc. (RJF) is a diversified financial services holding company. Approximately 62% of the firm’s revenue is generated by the Private Client Group, which is engaged in financial planning and investment activities. In addition RJF has businesses focussed on equity and fixed income capital markets, asset management and banking. RJF stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (RJF). RJF currently has over 4900 financial advisers located in 2200 offices in the US, Canada, the UK and elsewhere overseas. These advisers service more than 1.8 million client accounts representing total assets under control of approximately $212 billion (as of August 2008).
Who is Raymond James? The name of the firm came from a merging of companies run by Robert A. James and Edward Raymond. Raymond James was incorporated as Robert A. James Investments in 1962. In 1964 Raymond and Associates merged into Robert A. James Investments and the firm of Raymond James & Associates was formed. In 1983, Raymond James Financial, the group parent company, emerged in the public stage when RJF sold $14m in shares over-the-counter. On 11 April, 1986, Raymond James listed on the NYSE under the ticker symbol RJF, marking its first day of trading on the Big Board.
